Smiley Movement visits Gwyn Jones Primary School for Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week
On Wednesday, Smiley Movement’s Creative Producer Harrison Read joined Place2Be's Regional Director Eric Haines on a visit to Gwyn Jones Primary School in East London, to see how they’ve been celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week.

Together they met with pupils in Year 4 and their teacher Miss Hylton, who was leading a class activity on self-awareness, as part of this year’s campaign theme - ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’.
The lesson, based on one of the Disney Pixar’s Inside Out 2 themed resources, was from the official Children’s Mental Health Week school pack. The activity is centred around the film’s concept of ‘Personality Islands’ and encourages children to think about the different aspects of their identity, that when combined, make up their unique personality. Things like passions and interests, beliefs and values, and the things that matter most, such as family, friends and community.

As well as the themed lessons, the school held Children’s Mental Health Week assemblies and introduced daily music moments for the children to express themselves, culminating in a ‘Dress to Express’ day to end the week.
Smiley Movement captured a fitting film of the day with children sharing their thoughts and insights about the week and the impact Place2Be is having on the mental health of the whole school community.

Visiting Gwyn Jones School for Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week was a perfect opportunity to see first-hand how young people are being empowered to prioritise their wellbeing.” - Harrison Read, Creative Producer for Smiley Movement
“It is such a privilege for us that Smiley Movement are showcasing our flagship campaign, helping to amplify our objective: to empower, equip and give a voice to all children and young people in the UK.” says Jacqui Segal, Director of Fundraising and Communications.
“We were deeply impressed by how the charity is integrated within the school and the positive feedback the students gave on the impact it was having was truly inspiring. It reinforced the importance of supporting mental health initiatives in schools." said Harrison.
